Connectivity in National Policies: India
Although best known for tiger and elephant corridors, India also protects a diversity of wildlife through decades of connectivity-focused conservation policies.
Land sharing, sparing and connectivity aid tiger recovery
India's efforts to protect tiger populations provide a template for conserving large carnivores in an increasingly human-dominated landscape.
Traditional Ecological Knowledge in corridor restoration
A case study in India supports the use of Traditional Ecological Knowledge to incorporate local information and increase community engagement, both of which can lead to better conservation outcomes for restoration efforts.
The fate of bats under climate change and habitat fragmentation
Four new research papers detail how bat biodiversity is likely to change in the future across different tropical regions.
Road ecology: recent research into getting wildlife over and under transportation barriers
Recent publications highlight the challenges of connecting species across roads and the effectiveness of wildlife crossing structures around the globe.
Corridors in Asia: recent case studies
Recent publications detailing the state of connectivity for multiple species across Asia reveal new suggestions for management and research in the region.
Coffee, tea, and their influence on bats in the Ghats
Bat diversity and morphological traits vary between habitats such as protected forest, shade-grown coffee plantations, and open canopy tea plantations.
Tigers: Connecting the dots in a fragmented landscape
This is the first of a series on tiger population connectivity in a changing landscape. Tigers (Panthera tigris) inhabit thirteen countries across Asia, but they currently occupy only 7% of their historical range. Recent [...]
Mapping tiger attack hotspots to reduce conflict
The regions around protected areas, which often include or feed into crucial corridors, can be sites of intense human-wildlife conflict. Abrupt boundaries between natural habitat and human-dominated landscapes can facilitate large carnivores attacks on livestock, [...]
Tiger populations are protected, but are they connected?
Maintaining protected areas for tigers may seem like an obvious conservation step. But what about making sure that those protected areas connect populations? While protected areas are known to provide safe habitat for territories and [...]
Corridor success in connecting tiger metapopulation
One way to measure the effectiveness of linkages is by examining the level of gene flow between populations connected by corridors. For a corridor to have high functionality, it should show evidence of high [...]
Siju-Rewak Corridor
Siju-Rewak, Garo Hills, Meghalaya, INDIA From the World Land Trust: The Siju-Rewak Corridor, located in the Garo Hills, protects an important population (thought to be approximately 20% of all the elephants that survive in the [...]
