World’s largest dam removal leads to rapid fish recolonization
The removal of four dams along the Klamath River in Oregon enabled Chinook salmon to rapidly recolonize nearly 90% of their historical range.
The conflicting role of pine plantations as a matrix
As the world's forests are increasingly converted to timber plantations, more changes in land use mean a more complex matrix. The role of the matrix surrounding remnant habitat fragments is still unclear, particularly when that [...]
Using network theory to prioritize management
Although connectivity tools are numerous and growing steadily, there's no point in managing for connectivity without the practicality of knowing how to prioritize management decisions. Questions such as which patches are most important, which corridors [...]
How do habitat, landscape and climate affect population dynamics across different species?
In a fragmented landscape, we can model a species’ population as a set of many smaller populations occupying scattered, suitable habitat. Even if persistence in any one habitat patch is low, being connected to many [...]
Management of range expansion
As climate change is predicted to shift landscape composition and connectivity, individuals living at the upper range limits for their species may experience more opportunities for colonization into higher latitudes or elevations. The persistence of [...]
