Projects and Activities

Habitat fragmentation, biodiversity loss, and climate change are global crises affecting every country and ecosystem on the planet. Human presence and disturbance is widespread, and detrimental effects continue to increase. Wildlife has less space to roam, free flowing rivers are rare, protected areas are becoming isolated islands, and ecological processes essential to human well-being – including clean air, clean water, nutrient cycling, pollination, food security, and climate regulation – are in jeopardy. Studies reveal that over three-quarters of the Earth’s land mass outside of Antarctica has been transformed by human activity and up to one million species are currently at risk of extinction.

In response, the Connectivity Conservation Specialist Group brings to bear mounting evidence and actions for conserving connected landscapes and seascapes as critical for sustaining habitats, saving species, maintaining ecological functions, and adapting to climate change. Together, members of the group are working to maintain, enhance and restore ecological connectivity for the unimpeded movement of species and the flow of natural processes that sustain life on Earth. This page highlights ongoing projects and activities that CCSG members and partner institutions are advancing around the world.
